Overview
With many ways to stay motivated and focused in the world, we as humans always tend to lose that mentally that keeps us going. In those hard times, we bring to you, Motive an app that can solve those losing moments and keep you thriving with the motivation and focus you need.
Problem
The problem we had on our hands was how numerous apps say that this will help you gain motivation and be more focused in your life, but they always lead to disappointment with boring quotes and paid subscriptions. We wanted to solve those problems by bringing an app that would bring motivational speeches, videos, and quotes from the best motivational speakers while keeping a daily streak going and always completing your goals for a healthier and better lifestyle.
Business Requirements
Having less wordy and annoying notifications buzzing the users phone all day.
Videos and Quotes to push people in many ways that will help them achieve their goals.
Making people want to commit to the app instead of being forceful.
Testing how effective the app will be.
Solution
Our solution is Motive, something that will be there no matter what you are going through or in need of mentally. Motive is there to do it all with quotes and videos on mental health workout routines and clearing conflicts. Motive will do what is needed and even more because that is what we are all here to do. Our goal is to help others become better versions of themselves every day, with this becoming a helping tool that will make it easier to achieve those goals.

Research Process
Is where all of my research was conducted using various research methods such as user surveys, interviews, and user stories. All the data I got was used for the betterment of the app’s final proto
How Might We?
We first started with an How Might We? page that would help us note down what we gathered from the problem and then be able to conduct some surveys that would be based on these features, structural additions. services and pain points.
Survey Data
This was all the survey data we gathered and prioritized. We had 40 total participants which had 10 online survey takers and 30 local survey takers. With these participants we asked them 20 questions and out of those 20 questions these six questions were the major key factors in determining what our target audience wanted in an motivational app.
User Interviews
Interviewer (1)
Age: 22
Works out everyday
Hates notifications never liked the way he gets notifications from apps to workout like he has to do it.
Wants routine motivations that will help him focus while lifting.
Interviewer (2)
Age:27
Doesn't work out
Needs an app for mental health and having a better mindset
Stressing over financial problems and needs something or someone to talk to so they can get through it mentally.
Liked the Idea of specialized Quotes instead of quotes from some famous person.
Interviewer (3)
Age: 48
Works out occasionally
Wants the app for motivating themselves to workout and stay focused for their own gas station business.
They wanted a casting system for videos and being able to play videos while at work with options to mute and unmute the audio while working.
Competitive Analysis
For our Competitive Analysis we had three competitors that had similar takes on the problem. For the third competitor Forest, It was a game idea , but became just am addictive game to keep playing then having the actual MVP of motivating people. The first competitor Motivate was a very good app with a lot features, but it lacked the depth of actually pushing people towards their goals. The most competitive app on the analysis was Thinkup with it’s variety of challenges and goals as well as different categories to work with.
User Stories
High Priority User Stories
As a new user, I want personalized widgets for motivation.
As a returning user, I need personalized preferences that I can change.
As a returning user, I need motivational quotes and videos that update everyday.
As a new user, I want personal profile and settings for myself to change.
As a returning user, I want a community page to help push others with myself.
High Priority User Stories (Development Perspective)
As a developer, I need to create a database for newer quotes and videos to be added.
As a designer, I need to find new and motivating quotes that will increase the apps MVP.
As a designer, I need to make the app easy to use on a daily basis.
As a developer, I need to animate the app to the designers visioned prototype.
User Personas

Develop Process
This is where all magical design happens. We start off with the basic user flows and sitemaps for the app then follow up with paper sketches to gain fresh ideas.

Wireframe Sketches
Digital Wireframes
These were the final digital wireframes made before moving on to the app branding and high-fidelity prototyping phase. The wireframes came out very nicely and were integrated perfect for the final prototype.

Style Guide
Usability Testing
So for our usability tests we went the in person route by getting a few people we know and surveyed before to come and sit down for a testing session. We noted down points that the users liked and didn't like about the final product.
Most users were very happy with the non repetitive notifications system.
There were some prototype type situations where animations and gifs didn't play as it should of.
Some users didn't scroll on the quotes and videos pages
Users loved the goals page, but wanted most depth in the options.
Users tried to swipe on the home page, but it only have a few options on it.
There were settings issues where the app wouldn't let users sign out.
All these problems were fixed after the test for the final product.

Here is the final prototype of the Motive App!

Deliver Process
Lastly we come to the conclusion of a beginning for the how we would make this amazing redesign into a reality for everyone.

Motive’s next steps are filled with a long task full journey to become an actual app on the app store by next year if all goes perfectly. Currently the app is being discussed and arranged to be coded by the team with trademarks and copyrights. Some additional steps would be to have a big database for quotes and videos to be added and specialized for each user’s chosen goals.

To conclude this project I would like to state that it was an amazing and fun experience. I really enjoyed making this app come to life with my prototyping and wireframing skills. It has still a lot of additions that can be made, but in the end the app came out beautifully and fit our problem as well as our MVP perfectly.

The takeaways from this project mainly has to be the lack of surveys data we got because It was really difficult to get data this time around compared to the past projects. To learn from this issue I would most likely be more involved in the Reddit communities and having a better connection with past interviewers, so that it is easier to get survey participants. In all it was an amazing experience like always, I really enjoyed the designing part for this app.
